Hitting our stretch target would enable us to buy more suitable, comfy, hospitable replacements. We are a community-run pub in the heart of Moulsecoomb in East Brighton. They were all we could afford back then and have served us well, but the chairs are uncomfortable for some of our older diners as they enjoy their weekly social lunches and the tables have seen better days. The tables and chairs in the cafe area of the pub were second hand when we purchased them in 2014. We would also love to improve the experience for the people who regularly use our community kitchen service. If it works for them we will scale up our provision, taking our slow cooker bags to local collection points like schools, community centres and of course The Bevy. We will keep in touch with them to hear what they think of the food and how they find using the slow cookers.
#THE LOCAL BEVY FREE#
We will provide some individuals and families in our community with free slow cookers and some free slow cooker packs.
#THE LOCAL BEVY FULL#
Slow cooker packs, with prepared ingredients, flavour packs, and full instructions included, can help get families or individuals started using this convenient and economical cooking method. Slow Cookers can be the answer to this problem. Based on a successful roll out of this idea in Liverpool by Can Cook CIC, we would like to see if this idea is right for Moulsecoomb and Bevendean.įinding the time and money to cook meals from fresh ingredients can be a challenge for those working long hours as well as running busy households, especially if money is tight too. We would like to pilot a Slow Cooker Kits project. Additional funds we raise now will be used to improve other aspects of our community kitchen offer. We have some great ideas though, to go even further and that is why we have set our new stretch target of £18,000. These funds will enable the Bevy to have a much greater impact in combatting isolation and providing healthy, zero waste food options to people across Moulsecoomb and Bevendean. Wow, we cannot believe that we made our target ahead of time! The enthusiasm has been extraordinary and we are so grateful to all the people and local businesses who have been involved. We need £12,000 to achieve our goals but the great thing is that Power to Change, a fund set up specifically to help community businesses like The Bevy, is matching your contribution pound for pound! So please dig deep and help get our square meals onto round wheels! We hit our first crowdfunding target!
#THE LOCAL BEVY DRIVER#
We will need some new kitchen equipment, a vehicle, and some funding to pay a driver while we build up the delivery service to become self funding. For some this will mean low cost meals and for others this might mean no charge at all.

We will be working with our local partners like Chomp, Fareshare, Brighton Table Tennis Club, and with local sheltered accommodation providers, to ensure our local residents who most need a tasty home cooked meal will benefit from our top tucker, based on their needs rather than their ability to pay. We also want to make a difference for people who might find feeding themselves a bit of a struggle, whether because of a tight budget or a limited ability to shop and cook, or maybe just because it’s a pleasure for someone to bring a delicious meal to your door when you don’t get out of the house much. So now we want to take the show on the road, delivering lunches to local work places from Monday to Friday. We know that there are many people working hard in Moulsecoomb and Bevendean who cannot always get over to the pub but having tried our lunches in the Bevy are craving Marco’s incredible blue cheese and mushroom lasagne or Baz’s crucial curries.

These are currently available on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes for just £4, but we want more people to benefit from such gorgeous grub.

Chefs Baz and Marco are taking ingredients from Fareshare Sussex that would have gone to waste and are instead conjuring up delicious, healthy, nutritious meals. The word is spreading about the Bevy’s amazing community lunches. We host weekly social lunches for older people, an Art and Crafts Group, a Dementia Cafe, free cookery classes, adult education courses and more.

As well as a great place to eat and drink, The Bevy is a community hub where local people get together to meet their other needs. The Bevy is an award winning business, the UK’s only community owned pub located on a housing estate. Everything we now raise, will go to making sure that we're able to produce the best possible food for our local area, and ensure that Bevy Bites reaches as many people with varying needs as we can.īevy Bites - Square Meals on Round Wheels We have been amazed by your generosity so far! Our new, second stretch target of £18,000, is an ambitious one- the priority now is making sure that everyone has a chance to support our community kitchen.
